As a result of the building of Levi’s Stadium, the city could undergo a huge transformation as developer Related California has released plans to develop 215 acres of city-owned land  that is currently the site of the Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club and a bicycle-motocross track. The project would include much needed retail, entertainment, residential, hotel, and office space in the area near the Santa Clara Convention Center, Levi’s Stadium, and California’s Great America.

Related California’s project includes an 89-acre City Center with a cinema, market, restaurants, and 886,000 sq. ft. of retail area. In all, City Center would be 1.4 million sq. ft. of retail and entertainment area, 2.2 million sq. ft. of office space, 200 hotel rooms and 530 residential units.

Also proposed on the city owned acres at the intersection of Tasman Dr. and Centennial Blvd. directly across from the stadium is the $400 million “Centennial Gateway” project which has plans for two hotels, restaurants, entertainment, and office space. This additional 860,000 sq. ft. project is led by the Montana Property Group and Lowe Enterprises.

Santa Clara PAC breakfast was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Keith Bruce (left) President & CEO of the Super Bowl L Host Committee, Steve Van Dorn (center), President/CEO of the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce & Convention-Visitors Bureau, and Daniel Lurie (right) Chair of the Super Bowl L Host Committee.

Over 225 attendees listened intently as Super Bowl L Host Committee Chair Daniel Lurie and President and CEO Keith Bruce outlined the many economic opportunities that will be available to the business community during Super Bowl L when it is held in Santa Clara in 2016.

Taking the lead from the New York-New Jersey Super Bowl Host Committee’s playbook, a Business Connect website will be launched in 2014 to give local, minority and woman-owned businesses access to Super Bowl related business with workshops, networking, and help for negotiating the procurement process.  “The Super Bowl Business Connect program has a history of great success with local business engagement,” said Bruce.

In fact, the Super Bowl L Host Committee is going to be studying the MetLife Stadium Super Bowl event like a text book since this event will be a regional event, like 2016.

“The entire world is going to be watching Super Bowl 50 while it occurs in Santa Clara” said Lurie.  The City of Santa Clara is already seeing some significant growth in business activity and interest as a result.  “There are so many possibilities – it’s an exciting time to be here in Santa Clara”!
